VOLUNTEER

LUMAteers

Volunteer positions for 2024 are now OPEN

LUMA provides wonderful opportunities for people to be involved with the setup, running and pack down of this event. We require around 100 volunteers to join us and make up our family of LUMAteers. LUMAteers will contribute their skills, energy and enthusiasm in one of two main areas: Behind the Scenes – event set up and pack down, or as Part of the Scene – greeting guests, delivering information, collecting donations, selling merchandise and much more. Whilst the bulk of work is done by skilled crew and artists, they need the support of you, our LUMAteers, for some of the tasks.

Becoming a LUMAteer

By becoming a LUMAteer you gain first-hand experience in event set up and delivery, you will meet a great team of people and be part of one of the most exciting events in the Southern Lakes area. You are also guaranteed to make new friends while making a fantastic contribution to this community.

You do not need any prior experience to become a LUMAteer but you will need to be 16 years or older, be good at communicating with others, listening to instruction, multi-tasking, using initiative and turning up with keenness and excitement for the role you have been assigned.

If you have any volunteer questions, big or small, please email at lumateers@luma.nz.

Thanks for wanting to be part of the LUMA family!

Volunteer Positions

EVENT SET UP TEAM

This team of people clock up volunteer hours during the week lead-up to the event opening.

You get to see behind the scenes and work directly with our artists and key crew. We need people who can lift, carry, climb, listen, think, smile and generally be very useful! A morning briefing will reveal the list of tasks for the day but be assured there will be all sorts of things to do including chatting with the public about what’s going on and keeping them safely out of the way.

MANAGERS ASSISTANTS

Working alongside one of our key Managers you will assist with installation and set up around the gardens. This will be fast paced, very fluid and require lots of initiative and energy. We would also love if you could be available for the best part of the day (it won’t be early starts) and if you are keen to hang out with the management team for a few consecutive days then that is even better.

LUMA AMBASSADORS

Our large team of Ambassadors are vital for the delivery of a sparkly four days of LUMA. Ambassadors work in pairs and are assigned a range of tasks including:

  • Creating a sense of arrival and involvement for guests – welcoming and greeting people as they arrive to the event.
  • Relaying information – being knowledgeable about LUMA so that you can comfortably answer any questions visitors may have about the event and the installations.
  • Gathering research – Circulating the event, armed with a short survey to gather information from guests.
  • Merchandise team – assisting with the sale of LUMA merchandise.
  • Health and safety – our eyes and ears around the event – checking on each other and each installation to ensure those within our team and our guests are having a great time and are safe and well.

Ambassadors come and go from the LUMA HQ, they check in with the LUMAteer Managers and provide necessary feedback to keep the event running.

DAYTIME AMBASSADORS

During the day we require a presence in the Gardens area so that LUMA representatives are available to chat with the public, let them know what is going on, when to come to the event and answer questions about the event. This team also circulate between all the areas of our installations to gather feedback about any areas that need attention before we turn the lights on again for the evening.

EVENT PACK UP

It’s certainly not one of the glory jobs but one that we are probably THE most grateful for! As they say, many hands make light work and we need a crew who can get stuck in and help break things down, cart stuff around and help revert the gardens back to their natural state.
