The LUMA Enchanted Story
LUMA has a long and colourful history as part of Queenstown’s commitment to creative innovation, community and sustainability. Way back in 2015, the team behind LUMA set out to give the town an event that could be inclusive, accessible and, above all, an expression of imagination and world-class entertainment. Over the years, the show has taken over the waterfront, the laneways, and the botanical gardens. Even when we weren’t allowed out, LUMA brought it home with Lumify, our answer to the lockdown.
After nine years of battling weather, financial headwinds and uncertainty in the events sector, the team decided to put LUMA25 on hold unless we could find a partner with fresh thinking and a desire to invest.
Enter Screentime New Zealand, who decided they couldn’t bear to see LUMA disappear entirely from the calendar. After some hectic last-minute chats, a positive response from Kiwi Park, and lots of enthusiastic input from the whole team, LUMA Enchanted was hatched on March 25.
