Just Because You Can’t See It, Doesn’t Mean It’s Not There

Since LUMA 2021, the schools’ projects have been based around what students did, and continue to do, to keep themselves resilient and their wellbeing at optimal levels. Students reflect on the research done by the mental health foundation regarding the five ways to wellbeing. Students reflect on what they do well in each category and which ones they need to focus on and improve.

This project involved designing and prototyping shadow sculptures that look like abstract shapes.

When a light is shone at a certain angle, the ‘activity’ that the student has identified as having an impact on their wellbeing [based on their analysis of their personal wellbeing] is visible in the shadow the sculpture creates. Example below of work that inspired students to develop this concept.
Five schools/groups were involved in this work. Thank you to Wai Innovations and Southern Lakes Engineering for donating materials and time to produce the student prototypes in steel.

A thriving community living a harmonious existence drawing from and giving back to this special energy source with ritual, music, dance and celebration.
